The layers that make up Ultralight offer 3 benefits in 1 board; insulation, heat diffusion and decoupling. The surface of Ultralight features a layer of secure synthetic fabric as well as a layer of heat-diffusing aluminum. The board’s surface materials promote even heat distribution to eliminate cold spots. The PEF insulation core provides thermal separation from the underlying floor, ensuring rapid thermal response from a heated layer of tile or leveling compound above. The rapid thermal response promoted by PEF insulation and the diffusion layer enables the floor to warm up more quickly, resulting in a more energy-efficient underfloor heating system. The non-woven base layer acts as a high-performance anti-fracture membrane for tile and stone flooring, in compliance with ANSI A118.12. The base layer also facilitates a high-strength mechanical bond. Why use Ultralight? From installation to performance, Ultralight goes beyond any other insulation board to deliver more with less work. True to its name, Ultralight weighs just over a kilo per panel, making it much lighter and easier to move than standard cement-based backerboards. Ultralight cuts easily to size, straight or curved, without dulling a universal knife or creating dust. Despite its ease of cutting and inability to dull a knife, Ultralight is durable and won’t bend, break or chip even when dropped. Ultralight has achieved a heavy commercial rating when used with large-format tiles (600 mm x 600 mm) and a light commercial rating when used with standard tiles (300 mm x 300 mm), in accordance with ASTM-C627 (Robinson test). Ultralight offers more benefits than any other insulation board in the same size package. The PEF insulation layer reduces heating time by 76 minutes on slabs and cuts the energy used during heating by 69%, representing a saving of $1 per square foot per year. Beyond insulation, Ultralight ‘s heat-diffusing aluminum layer improves comfort and reduces operating costs by allowing floors to reach the same comfort temperature with 12% less energy, and that’s not all. Ultralight offers a layer of decoupling fleece to provide high-performance protection against tile cracking due to lateral subfloor movement, in compliance with ANSI A118.12.
